WBO Africa Super Featherweight champion Maxwell Awuku is calling the bluff of IBF Intercontinetal champ of the same division Emmanuel Tagoe AKA Game Boy. Awuku who has also demanded to face Briton Ricky Burns, wants to face and beat his compatriot Tagoe first.

Tagoe previously held the WBO Africa Super Featherweight belt before relinquishing it for Awuku to claim the vacant crown earlier this year. Awuku is chagrined by rumours in boxing circles that Tagoe is the best super featherweight in Ghana and is demanding a fight against him to set the records straight.

“I’m 100% confident, not even 99.5%, that I will beat him. He’s claiming to be the super featherweight champion of Ghana but I say he is nobody so I need to seriously silence him. Even if they say next week, I’m ready. I have more exposure than him, I have fought in Britain, South Africa. Even in Ghana he has not fought outside Accra, he is just a Bukom fighter. He should stop the bragging, he’s nobody,” Awuku fumed to ALL SPORTS.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Tagoe who is preparing to face a South American opponent in the first defence of his IBF Intercontinental title next January 28, has laughed off the challenge of Maxwell Awuku. Game Boy says he was even thinking of getting Awuku as a sparring partner because the January 28 opponent, like Awuku, is southpaw.

Nevertheless, Tagoe is also keen on the fight. He told ALL SPORTS: “Maxwell Awuku is no fight for me, no he can’t stand me. He’s not in my class at all, now where my focus is, Awuku is nowhere near.

"I want him to be asked again if he is serious, if it’s a joke then he should stop because I will destroy him.”
