Lateral defenders Richard Kissi Boateng and Yaw Frimpong were the only Ghanaian players to have kicked a ball in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup as TP Mazembe were booted out of the competition by Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Japan international Tsukasa Shiotani gave the Asians the lead in the first half against the run of play after a bright start from TP Mazembe.
Two well worked second half goals from Kazuhiko Chiba and a special finish from Takuma Asano sealed a 3-0 victory for Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
TP Mazembe’s French coach Patrice Carteron left out veteran African goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba and Ghana international Solomon Asante who both played a key role for their CAF Champions League triumph.
Influential midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei was also surprisingly left out of the team which crushed to a defeat at the hands of the Asians who dominated the second half of the game.
The defeat means the Africans will be heading home after just a game in the competition.
