Tall, cool and calm George Darko experienced one of the happiest days in his life when beat his bitterest rival Jeff Bagerbaseh to go home with ghc 2000 and two rackets plus attractive sponsors prizes.

In a very tight game the two top players in Ghana displayed great coolness and artistry to charm the fans who had trooped to the Stadium Tennis Courts to witness the McDan Tennis Open Finals.

George Darko was at his cool best and he dictated the pace of the game, while Jeff Bagarbaseh did all he could to stay on the court, but lost honourably.

In the ladies clash at the final Francisca Nyarku retained her position as number one.

She beat hard hitting Kate Coleman who was not mobile enough on the court to beat the champion.

They both received cash prizes and assorted gifts from the sponsors.

Mr. Dan McCauley CEO of McDan Shipping and Logistics congratulated the finalists and urged them to train hard as the next McDan Open would be an international event, comprising West African nations.

He appealed to other companies to support sports.

“If other companies take up one sport and sponsor, I think the sports disciplines in Ghana will be very well. We should try to support those who have the talent to make name for the nation” he said.

He promised to take Ghana to a higher level, wishing that Ghana will qualify to the Africa Zone Two.

Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, Minister of Youth & Sports who watched much of the finals including an exhibition game between the Vice President of the GTF and Former Sports Minister Hon Mahama Ayariga said Ghana has potential in many events and there are potentials in Tennis who can market the nation.

The McDan Open had support from co-sponsors like Babolat Sports Equipment, Afwest Security, Platinum Sports and Automedics.
