Medeama SC Head Coach Samuel Boadu says he remains highly confident they will win this season’s Ghana Premier League despite suffering a major black eye in their title pursuit.

The Mauves and Yellows were docked 6 points earlier this week by the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee for fielding an unqualified player in a league match against Great Olympics.

The point deduction sees Medeama SC relinquish their position at the summit of the league table as well as a reduction of their total points from 30 to 24.

They now trail league leaders Aduana Stars by 4 points and this surely serves as a morale denting experience for the Tarkwa based side.

However Samuel Boadu sees the picture entirely different. The astute tactician believes the situation will serve as an impetus to work extra harder to catch up with those at the top.

He responded in the negative when asked if the point deduction will have any negative impact on his team.

“Not at all, What I will say is, its also a motivation to us, it will also help us to work extra hard” he told TV3’s GPL Express host Juliet Bawuah.

“Now we have seen that we have lost some points…that doesn’t dump our spirits, we are going to work extra to regain our position” he continued.

With 15 matches to go, Medeama SC have been touted as potential league winners alongside the likes of Aduana Stars, Asante Kotoko and AshGold SC.

Samuel Boadu is cocksure his side will eventually win the race to decide the league winner at the end of the season.

“And I believe that this year’s league Medeama SC will be crowned the champions”

“I have done my calculations and I have seen that when we deduct six points from our points, we will come to 24, and the one who’ll be at the top now is 28….so with just 4 points interval between Medeama and the first…this is not a big deal, those teams they will come to Tarkwa and we are going to score (sic) them and we also work hard to win the away matches to compensate for the point deduction…he concluded.

The Ghana Premier League is currently suspended for the next 4 weeks following a directive from government.

The decision was taken as part of measures to curb the spread of the novel Corona Virus with 7 cases confirmed so far.

In this period of inactivity Medeama SC have decided to break camp for a week, with the team expected back on Wednesday March 25.
