Cape Coast, Sept. 05, GNA – Tarkwa-based Medeama FC pipped Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0 to lift the Kofi Annan Trophy in the Top 4 football finals played at the Robert Mensah Stadium, Cape Coast on Sunday.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko also dished out a similar 1-0 defeat to Cape Coast Venomous Vipers for the third place position.
Four teams, Medeama, Dwarfs, Kotoko and Vipers participated in the Tournament, organized by the Oguaaman Union to climax the activities of Fetu Afahye of the Chiefs and people of Oguaa Traditional Area.
After Accra-based referee, Vincent Otoo, signaled the two sides into action it was Dwarfs who took control of the match from the start and had all the chances to score about three goals but their striking force of Richard Ackom and Mustapha Otoo squandered the chances that came their way to end the first half barren.
Back from recess, Medeama forced the tide in their favour but had to wait until the 75th minute when Kwabena Edusei scored the only goal of the match from a well taken free kick.
The beauty of the game was nearly marred when the referee disallowed an apparent goal scored by Dwarfs in the 80th minute.
The decision of the referee held up play for some minutes but with the timely intervention of the security personnel and officials of the competition, calm was restored to allow the match continue to the end of full time.
In a related encounter, Asante Kotoko beat Vipers 1-0 for the third position from a goal scored by Kofi Nti Boakye in the second half of the game.
Nana Brew Butler, former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association and the General Secretary of the Oguaaman Union and Mr Anthony Egyir Aikins, Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive jointly presented the Trophy to the champion Club, Medeama.
Present were Nana Aidoo, Chief Executive Officer of Dwarfs and Mr Moses Parker, Chief Executive Officer of Medeama FC.
