The event drew hundreds of supporters and participants who took turns to try their hands on Ghana’s fastest growing sport.
James Dufuah, a rookie was crowned the Western Region men’s champion with Grace Commey winning the women’s category.
James Asirifi witnessed all the thrilling actions and disclosed after the event that he was impressed with the strides made by the federation.
He opined that the health benefits derived from engaging in armwrestling contests are enormous hence the need for Ghanaians to embrace the sport.
Asirifi who defeated his goalkeeper Eric Ofori-Antwi in a 3-round armwrestling contest said “my little experience with armwrestling was very interesting. Initially I thought it was a form of competition not knowing it had to do with health. If you do it you are physically building your muscles so I will encourage everybody to be part because it has health benefits”.
“Charles Osei Assibey has really done well. You need to start from somewhere before you get to the top. Initially the patronage was not really strong but now sponsors are coming on board. So with time corporate Ghana will come on board so I will entreat Charles to go ahead and do it”.
“This just the beginning but with time we’ll come on board and support so I will entreat them to go ahead with whatever plans they have”, he concluded”.
The President of the club Moses Armah also blessed the event with his presence.
