Medeama SC fined $15,000 by CAF

Former MTN FA Cup holders Medeama SC have been fined $15,000 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for unruly behavior on the part of the club’s fans, Footy-Ghana.com can confirm.

Sources close to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have told footy-ghana.com that due to the behavior of the club’s fans during the CAF Confederations Cup match against AC Leopards in Sekondi, CAF imposed the fine on the Yellow and Mauves.

Footy-ghana.com has gathered that in a letter sent by the GFA to the President of Medeama SC and dated July 23 2014, Moses Armah, the club’s supporters were accused of throwing plastic bottles and projectiles towards the bench of AC Leopards and were also accused of harassing the players of AC Leopards; a situation which nearly resulted in the failure of the visiting team to come out for the second half and saw the second half delayed by 15 minutes.

Footy-ghana.com has also learnt that, according to the letter, the CAF Disciplinary Committee held a meeting on July 17 2014 in Cairo and the decision was made to fine Medeama SC.

The Yellow and Mauves have been ordered to pay the money within 14 working days of receiving the letter from the GFA. Medeama SC was knocked out despite a second leg 2-0 win over AC Leopards in April, after losing by the same scoreline a week earlier.

The Yellow and Mauves lost on penalties to their Congolese counterparts.
