Medeama cage Lions as scenes of anger marred game

Medeama SC produced a sensational first half football to ravage Heart of Lions at the T&A Park in Tarkwa as the miners secured their first win in four matches played in the second round,thumping the Kpando side by 4 goals to 1.

The Yellow and Mauves took an overwhelming 3-0 lead by the 31st minutes on the day they showed relentless effort to bounce back to winning ways. Leading top scorer Nathaniel Asamoah scored a brace to take his goal tally to 13 with Akwasi Donsu and Hans Kwofie also on target before Daniel Bonsu got the consolation for the Kpando lads.

The home side exerted pressure from the onset but Prosper Avoh cut out a pass to Asamoah in the 3rd minutes to deny the striker a chance before Malik Akowuah had a free kick missed target from the edge of the box in the 6th minutes and Donsu also with a close effort missed an opportunity in the 9th minute.

Akowuah in the 14th minutes had his free kick deflected wayward by Kwofie who connection to the shot misdirected the ball away from goal from 8 yards.

The 15th minutes mark saw Lions showing up with two attempts but referee Wiseman Ghansah denied them a penalty claim when Bonsu went down under the challenge of Kofi Agyare.

Bonsu was found with a pass to deliver a thunderbolt volley from wide right but Foli Adade punched it and the rebound from Prince Acquah went over with his diving header.

Medeama moved on to earn a corner kick which nearly gave them a goal as Kwame Boahen struck the post after the set piece was poorly defended by Lions.

The incessant pressure paid off when Asamoah trapped a shot from Donsu to slot home for the opener in the 19th minutes.

Goalkeeper Kwame Baah then made a good save to a powerful free kick shot from Akowuah who had threatened him from dead balls.

Strike Asamoah turned provider to assist Donsu for the second goal in the 28th minutes,chipping a through ball for the midfielder to finish the running ball.

The third goal came from the penalty spot when goalie Baah failed to grab a shot from Eugene Zutah and whacked down Zutah when the he went in for a rebound.

Asamoah stepped up to convert the spot kick in the 31st minutes for a great lead to the recess.

The second half had barely settled and Lions still sluggish in defending set pieces for Kwofie from an unmarked position in the penalty box to tap in the fourth goal with six minutes into the half.

Lions pulled one goal back from Bonsu who finished a neat low ball at the bottom corner,six minutes after conceding the fourth goal.
