Accra, April 1, GNA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) is set to begin preparations towards the next edition of the Men-Only Boxing Competition. Moses Foh-Amoaning, Chairman of the GBA told the GNA Sports that, his outfit has commenced negotiations with the sponsors - Far East Merchantile Ghana limited - dealers in Men

Only Deodorant and Metropolitan Television to arrive at a mutually agreed new deal. According to Foh-Amoaning, registration for the competition will commence this month whilst the competition has been fixed July, 2008.

He said under the new arrangement, Metro TV is likely to cede its right to Optimum Media Productions, (OMP) adding that plans are also in place to bring on board GBS, a private pay per view TV station in a bid to reach viewers outside the country. Foh-Amoaning said the new competition will see the introduction of a new insurance policy for participants, adding that they are in talks with some insurance companies to take up this responsibility in the form of sponsorship.

This, he said, will end the controversy over the payment of insurance premiums from the purses of boxers.

The Men-Only Boxing Championship was introduced about three years ago by the GBA to create a platform for speedy development of local boxers.

It is also aimed at keeping the boxers in shape through regular fights and promotions.
