Mercy Tagoe: Ghana's first-ever female coach to win a trophy

Born on February 5, 1974, Mercy Tagoe, grew up to follow her quest and passion to become a professional football coach, attaining admirable historic feats that shaped her coaching career.

Tagoe started her career as a player, taking on the role of a defender for the Ghana Women's National football team.

Tagoe was part of the team at the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup in the United States. On the club level, she played for Bluna Ladies in Ghana.

As a footballing professional referee, Tagoe, became the first Ghanaian female referee to officiate at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2007 held in China.

In February 2018, she led the Black Queens to win the maiden edition of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire as an interim coach.

Having worked as the deputy Coach for the side, the former Amidaus Professional assistant trainer was handed the opportunity to lead the side at the competition.

Prior to picking up a coaching role, Mercy Tagoe was a referee in the Ghana Premier League after making history as the first-ever female referee in the league in 2005.

Tagoe also proved her worth when she made history as the first Ghanaian female referee to officiate at the FIFA Women's World Cup held in China in 2007.

And having successfully supervised the team to win their second major silverware, the former Ghana international female star was named the substantive Head Coach for the Black Queens.

Currently, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, is the Head Coach of the female national team, the Black Queens.
