Lionel Messi celebrated his birthday while away on international duty at the Copa America, posing for a picture with his cake and team-mates.
Messi posted a picture on Instagram as he held a birthday cake to mark turning 37. Among the handful of team-mates invited to celebrate with him were Cristian Romero, Rodrigo de Paul and fellow veterans Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi.
Already gifted a giant bottle of Argentinean wine by Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham, Messi is targeting Copa America glory this summer. The reigning world and South American champions began their campaign with a 2-0 group stage win over Canada.
Messi said in his caption: "Thank you so much for all the greetings and congratulations!! Another year that coincides with my birthday being with the National Team... So celebrating a little bit more and we keep getting ready for our next game. Hugs!"
Despite turning 37, Messi isn't actually the oldest player in Argentina's Copa America squad. That honour goes to back-up goalkeeper Franco Armani, who was born in 1986 and celebrated his 37th birthday back in October.
Argentina's Copa America continues on June 25 with a group encounter against Chile, who began by drawing 0-0 with Peru. Messi and Co. will hope for a more convincing win, having not truly sealed their Canada victory until the 88th minute.
