Accra, Sept 23, GNA-Mr. Rashid Bawa, Minister of State at the Ministry of Youth and Sports has said the ministry has plans to develop the Kawokudi Park at Mamobi to serve as Community Park for the area. He said the ministry has realised the need to provide infrastructure at the community base to help in the development of sports ; hence the plan to grass the Kawokudi pitch, provide a fence wall and floodlights.

Mr Bawa said this when he addressed teachers and children of the Juros Kirby School in Mamobi after an on line joint Sports Festival with children of the Ipswich Town Study Support Service in the UK who are participating in a similar festival in their country.

The festival was held at Mamobi where the children were linked up with their UK counterparts at their festival dubbed "Karbon Project, Playing For Success". It is being organised by the British Council and the Youth Sports Trust.

The programme is aimed developing leaders through sports as well as linking the children with their colleagues in UK in order to become part of the global network of young leaders.

It is also to raise educational standards of the children by their involvement in Internet training, which will empower them to think global in order to improve the local environment.

The Minister said the development of the park would help in unearthing talents in sports since more youths will take part in sporting activities adding that the development of community pitches is part of the government's programme to revive sports in the country.

Mr Bawa said engineers of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) have already inspected the pitch and plans are far advanced to prepare another pitch to be in use while work starts on the main pitch expected to take at least two months to complete.

He lauded organisers of the programme in Ghana and said his ministry will discuss with Ghana Education Service (GES) to seek ways of incorporating same into its curricular.
