The vice chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has called on Ghanaian journalists to do more to project the brand of the Black Stars since their reportage on the team can have a domino effect.

The team have received severe criticism from the media since the World Cup 2014 debacle and have lost support in their last few games. This culminated in a very poor attendance in the last AFCON qualifier against Rwanda last weekend.

However, speaking to Class Sports’ Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang, Mr Afriyie said fair criticism was good but the constant negative reportage was beginning to hit hard at the brand.

“Ultimately, this is what we are looking at. We need to package the brand very well but if the brand is consistently being lambasted and denigrated, how are we going to achieve that? It is the number one sporting brand in the country and as such we need the help and cooperation of the media to help market this brand. I must admit they are helping but we need them to do more. They are very important in that regard,” he stated.
