A bus carrying approximately 60 children and officials from Ada-based Monarch Football Club has been involved in a crash.

The accident took place around 3:30 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, in Kwahu, in the Eastern Region, as the team was returning from a weeklong football tournament held in Obo Kwahu, which featured 32 teams.

According to one of the survivors, the bus’s brakes reportedly failed while descending the Kwahu Mountain towards Nkawkaw.

The bus, fully loaded with passengers, began to sway uncontrollably before eventually overturning.

The victim, who was among those transported to the hospital recounted to Agoo FM that, “We came to participate in the 32-club tournament at Kwahu Obo and were heading back to Ada. The bus started swaying from left to right until it eventually overturned. Our team is called Monarch.”

Emergency response teams, including the fire service and police, swiftly arrived at the scene to rescue injured footballers and recover the bodies of those who were believed to have passed on.

Local taxi drivers, journalists from Agoo FM, and residents also played a crucial role in assisting with the rescue efforts transporting the victims to Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital for treatment.
