The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) continue to receive more support from the corporate world as the 2004 Olympics Games scheduled for Athens, Greece draws closer.

The Committee on Thursday received donations of drugs, cosmetics, toiletries and food items from three companies in Accra.

The companies are PZ Company Limited who donated antiseptics, cough mixtures, blood tonics, vitamin capsules and soaps to the contingent, with Forewin Ghana limited supporting the team with food items such as fruit drinks, milk and quaker oats, whilst Forewin Ghana Limited also gave out oats, bournvita and biscuits.

The items are worth 18 million cedis with each of the company contributing goods worth six million cedis, were presented to the GOC by representatives of the companies.

Mr Benson T. Baba, President of the Committee, who received the items, said the companies continue to come to their aid because they enjoy a lot of good will from the companies.

He said the Committee has over the years developed a very positive relationship with the corporate bodies and this has resulted in the massive support they are receiving from them, adding that all the donations both in kind and in cash would be put to good use.

According to Mr Baba, this year's campaign has received massive support due to the qualification of the national Under-23 team, the Black Meteors as well as the impressive output of the athletes at the All Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria last year.

Mr Baba said the doors of the Committee are still opened for more support since the sports men and women will be given further support after the Olympic Games.

He added that those who cannot make it to Athens Games would also receive some support from the Committee with the donated items in order to groom them for the next Olympic Games.
