Mount Sinai Secondary School's teacher wins ballot

Koforidua, June 7, GNA - Mr Collins Oteng Agyei emerged the winner of the Eastern Regional Convention People's Party's (CPP) slot to watch the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The 43 year old teacher of Mount Sinai Secondary School emerged the winner after a ballot had been cast for the slot which was allotted the Eastern Regional Branch of the CPP to select a representative to join the government sponsored supporters of the Ghana Black Stars to watch the World Cup in South Africa.

Mr Agyei who was not present at the balloting later expressed surprise at the results of ballot when he was contacted by GNA Sports on phone, and said he had always had the believe that such contests are often won by people who pay their way through.

He said the contest has however proved him wrong and indicated to him that, there are still many raffles that are played fairly during competitions and called on people with similar thoughts like him to change their perception and join any contest organized in the country. Out of 28 constituencies in the Eastern Region, 17 members of the Party filed to contest for the slot but only five of them met the party's criteria for the contest.

The Regional Chairman of the Party, Mr Seth Otibu Mpare said the Central Committee (CC), which was the supreme body of the party on May 27, approved a proposal for a raffle to be used for selection of the twenty party persons as part of government's sponsored supporter's group to the 2010 World Cup.

Mr Mpare said the Party believes that the process would ensure fairness, equal opportunity to each member and demonstrate the commitment of the leadership of the Party to the principle on which it was established. The Regional Chairman said the process is also to encourage members to pay their monthly dues since those who had not paid their dues were disqualified from the contest. He therefore called on party members to work hard to organize more committed people of the Party to contribute their quota to its development and urged them to pay their dues for future opportunities. Mr Mpare expressed the Party's profound gratitude to the organizers of the government sponsorship deal and for not allowing only the members of the ruling Party to make the trip but also adding other parties to join in the passion.
