Muntari sent home after insulting head coach - report

The Ghanaian football association (GFA) have made the decision to axe highly-rated midfielder Sulley Muntari from the African nation's World Cup squad following an incident with head coach Milovan Rajevac, according to a report in German newspaper Kicker.

The report suggests that Muntari insulted Rajevac following his decision to bench the Inter midfielder in Ghana's World Cup matches against Serbia and Australia. Rajevac didn't waste any time to react and has send Muntari home after discussing the matter with the GFA.

Muntari picked up an injury in the build-up to the World Cup and was therefore benched for the Black Stars' opener against Serbia, even though Muntari claimed that he had fully recovered and was ready to go.

Rajevac opted not to make any changes to his midfield after the impressive 1-0 win against Serbia and Muntari again started from the bench in Ghana's 1-1 draw with Australia. The 25-year-old played only 13 minutes in his side's second match of the group phase, much to his own dismay.

The GFA has yet to confirm Muntari's dismissal, but an official statement is expected to be released later on Monday.

Ghana meet Germany in their final match of the group phase and they can't afford to slip up if they are to progress.
