My generation was better - Taylor

Former Hearts of Oak playmaker Charles Taylor has played down the quality of the current playing body, saying his generation was better.

After battling with relegation for the most part of last season, the Phobians have picked themselves up this campaign with a run of good performances, winning four of six matches, drawing one and losing another.

“The current Hearts of Oak team is doing well and I am happy for them,” Taylor was quoted as saying by GhanaFans.

“The coach [Kenichi Yatsuhashi] has brought some discipline in the team and it is refreshing to see management allowing the coach to work on his own.

“The players are determined to do everything possible so as to not end up like they did last season, but they are not as talented as we were.

“During my time we were far better.”

Taylor played for Hearts between 2000 and 2003 after joining from city rivals Great Olympics, before controversially transferring to Kotoko.

He was a member of the Phobians set-up that lifted the 2000 Caf Champions League as well as the Super Cup.

At international level, Taylor played for Ghana’s under-23 team at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, as well as the 2009 African Nations Championship.
