Janok Foundation, a community-based organization at Sabon Zongo, has organized an exhibition boxing to climax this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr festival of the Muslims.

Madam Jane Amerley Oku, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation called on the youth to direct their energies towards national development.

She expressed regret that Zongo youth were always seen engaging themselves in illegal activities that could not help their future development.

“I strongly feel these young men can develop their God-given talents and become responsible citizens if they are assisted, hence the need for Janok, and GOODGET, distributors of quality solar products from Europe, to come to the aid of the youth, in moulding their characters through boxing,” she stressed.

Mr Wallace Nii Tackie Kommey, Chairman of the Greater-Accra Regional Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), noted that lack of adequate financial support for boxing was affecting the development of the sports in the country.

He said the situation had been so because of organizational or individual interests in promoting the game, adding that: “Ghana boxing is on the threshold of recapturing its lost glory, as the country stands to benefit from the many champions that will emerge if stringent measures are put in place.”

The GABA Chairman was of the view that such development was not in the interest of the region, and therefore directed all gymnasiums to prepare for a regional league, aimed at revamping boxing, to usher in a Regional Boxing League.

He commended GOODGET, sponsors of the programme and Janok Foundation, towards the development of sports, especially in the area of boxing.

Mr Joshua Bruce, Technical Director of GOODGET, advised parents not to discourage their sons who were interested in boxing from doing so, but should rather encourage them to fully pursue and develop their talents.
