The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has sent a congratulatory message to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) on the occasion of its 25th Anniversary Celebration, on Thursday, September 25.
The NPC, which is an affiliate of the IPC is of the firm conviction that, the international body has contributed positively to the development and promotion of para-sports in Ghana and the world as whole.
In a press statement signed by Ignatius Elletey, General Secretary of the NPC, it said, the IPC over the last years developed and promoted para-sports through the organisation of the Paralympics Games, which had provided the platform for people with disability to exhibit their talents.
The statement added that, the IPC through the Paralympic Games has also provided the platform for people with disability to break social, political and economic barriers in their respective countries, thereby attaining the respect of all.
The statement said, the IPC early this year provided the NPC with funding to embark on capacity building programme for its members on disability issues.
It said, the IPC through its technical arm, The Agitos Foundation is also in the process of providing Ghana, funding to organise the first ever National Paralympic Festival in November.
According to the statement, the success of the IPC cannot without mentioning the impact of disability sports in Ghana.
It said, the disability team of Ghana, has contributed significant amount of medals to Team Ghana at international games and will continue to play the leading role in sports in the years to come.
The statement also used the occasion to congratulate some of its leading para-athletes such as Ajara Mohamed, Botyso Nkegbe, Anita Fordjour, Patrick Obeng, Alem Mumuni, Charles Teye Narh, National Amputee Football team, the Black Challenge and administrators such Bishop Cornelius Adjah Coffie, Francis Adjetey Sowah and all past and present executives of the NPC.
“We are compelled as a body to appreciate your tireless efforts in the development and promotion of disability sports in Ghana on this important day when the IPC celebrates 25 years of existence as a sporting body,” The statement added.
