NSC relocates to Ministries and Complex tomorrow

Accra, Jan 3, GNA - Plans are far advanced for the main offices at the National Sports Council (NSC) and its various associations to relocate to the Ministries and the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex at Kaneshie on Wednesday, January 4.

The main offices with effect from Wednesday including that of Mr. Charles Aryeh, Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NSC would be moved to the Ministries with the Associations re-camping at Kaneshie as renovation works at the Ohene Djan Stadium commenced on a steady note.

The GNA Sports has been informed that the offices of Mr. Issaka Hamidu, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) as at Tuesday noon was still awaiting the Ministry's approval to enable them reposition in earnest. With work at the Stadium progressing by the day, the various Associations are expected to remain at the Complex until 2008 when the National Wembley would have been ready to host the rest of Africa in the Nations Cup fiesta.

Micheleti and Company Limited, the contractors assigned to facelift the stadium to meet the 40,000 capacity seating required by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the hosting of the event, has already removed the main railings and the trio red-gold-green seats at the Popular and Osu Stands respectively.

Some of the iron gates have also already been disconnected with part of the May 9 Stand slightly affected.

According to the contractors, the site that would be recovered from the running tracks would be excavated four meters down for the provision if new seats to meet the 40,000 all-sitting arrangement.

Mr Jimmy Castagna, Project Manager of Micheleti and Company Limited told the GNA Sports during an inspection, that the Osu Stand would be pulled down and extended with a replica of the May 9 Stand replacing the Independence Square end of the stadium.

The Company that is tasked to simultaneously renovate the El Wak Stadium for other sporting activities plans an eight lane tartan tracks with new dressing and washrooms for both the fans and sports men and women.

The works that began about a fortnight ago is also expected to affect part of the tennis courts, swimming pool and the main Sports Hall.
