NYA CEO Sylvester Mensah goes mad over delay of Koforidua stadium

Chief Executive officer of National Youth Authority, Sylvester Mensah Tetteh has expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work done on the upgrading of Koforidua Sports Stadium.

Isaac Asiamah, the Minister of Youth and Sports cut sod for the construction of the facility on March 26, 2018.

The project as stated by the sector minister was expected to be completed within nine months after sod cutting.

The facility is among the 10 Youth and Sports Centres been constructed by the government across the country in their quest to improve the standard of pitches and sports facilities.

Minister Asiamah said the $2 million project forms part of government’s efforts to provide Ghanaian youth with opportunities to develop their talents.

The facility, when completed, will house an 8-lane athletic track, a FIFA standard pitch, career counseling center, basketball and handball courts as well as a multi-purpose sports hall, a restaurant, and an ICT center.

However two years on, the Project is around 69% completion stage raising serious worry among residents?

Inspecting the Project Wednesday, April 29, 2020, in the company of a team including the Board Chairman of the Authority, Sylvester Mensah expressed his disappointment in the slow pace of work on the project.

He said the Authority is not indebted to the contractor; therefore, he has summoned the consultant to Accra to explain reasons for the delay.

“Let me a place on record that the Authority does not owe any contractor. We expect the work to get to a certain stage. It is still about 69% complete we want to see 90 to 95% work done at this stage. I’m not happy and I’m not sure anybody of the team here is happy with the pace of work. The site looks like an abandoned site.”
