NYC to use games to counsel youth

Accra, Jan 15. GNA - The National Youth Council (NYC) has said it will use sporting activities as a platform to counsel the youth on career guidance and health problems facing the youth in the country. Mr Joe Mantey, National Youth Co-ordinator of the NYC at a Press briefing on Thursday,said as part of its plans to achieve the objective, the council is constructing sporting facilities at the center to attract the youth.

He said facilities such as badminton and tennis courts, provision of table tennis boards as well as other indoor games facilities would be made available at the Multi Purpose Hall of the Center to attract the youth so as not to make them idle.

Mr Mantey added that the football park would also undergo renovations and expressed the hope they would be ready for use by the middle of the year.

He said the facilities are to be used to attract the youth to the center to in an effort to rekindle their interest on sports and recreational activities so that the Council can take advantage of it to carry out its educational exercise.

Mr Mantey said resource personnel and health officials would be stationed at the center to enable the youth to interact and have easy access to the facilities to create an atmosphere for the youth to be abreast on certain career and health issues.

The Youth Co-ordinator said this would help in the training of the youth and equipping them to face the numerous challenges of the future. He urged the media to give much publicity to the activities of the NYC so that the public would have a fair idea of its development programmes.
