Nalerigu Secondary - champions of Northern Region Games

Nalerigu, (N/R), Feb 20, GNA - The East Mamprusi District Assembly has presented a cow and 65 crates of soft drinks to the Nalerigu Secondary School (NASS) for emerging champions of this year's Northern Region Milo Games soccer championship.

NASS have by this feat created history in the Northern Region for being the first and only secondary school outside the regional capital, Tamale for the past 17 years to annex the soccer trophy. The annual Milo Games which was hosted by Bole Secondary School saw 26 secondary schools participating with NASS pipping Damongo Secondary School (DASS) 1-0 at the quarter-finals stage to qualify for the semi-finals.

NASS went ahead with their winning spree by disposing of Tamale Business Secondary School (BISCO) with a 1-0 victory and eventually emerged as the victors when they beat Tamale Ghana Secondary School (GHANASCO) 5-4 on penalties to lift the trophy.

Mr S.B. Awari, Headmaster of NASS told the GNA Sports at Nalerigu that the victorious team received a warm reception from the students and people of the Nalerigu township and the District capital Gambaga when they went on a victory parade through the principal streets before presenting the trophy to the District Chief Executive, Mr Peter Wuni. The headmaster commended the team for their achievement and urged them to train harder to achieve further successes. Mr Wuni congratulated the team for their unique achievement and advised them not to be complacent over their feat but to work tirelessly to annex the ultimate trophy at the National Milo championship scheduled for Koforidua.

The Sports master of the school, Shahadu Mohammed said the victory of the school at the Milo Games was not achieved on a silver platter since the team had to undergo strict discipline and vigorous training coupled with the needed motivation to enable them achieve the ultimate goal.

The victorious team later presented the trophy to the Nayiri, Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai, Paramount Chief of the Mamprugu Traditional Area who also made a donation of sheep while the school's Parent-Teacher Association also presented them with a ram. 20 Feb 06
