Kumasi, Jan 18, GNA - A Businessman has suggested that the Kumasi Sports Stadium should be named after Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene for his contribution towards national unity and development.
Mr. Opoku-Agyemang Prempeh, Managing Director of Lakayana Company, a civil engineering, revenue and debt-collecting firm said it was only through such an honour that the State could demonstrate its recognition and appreciation for the positive contribution of the Asantehene towards the progress of Asanteman and the nation.
Mr. Prempeh made the suggestion at a forum on the role of the youth in national developments and discipline, for some youth groups within the Kumasi Metropolitan Area on Monday.
He noted that the Asantehene had made a lot of contributions in education, health and other areas and deserved the honour by naming an important monument like the Kumasi Sports Stadium after him.
Mr. Prempeh observed that the honour would encourage others to emulate his generosity and commitment to national progress and development.
He said other Ghanaians, who have contributed and devoted their lives to the progress of the nation, should be identified and honoured by naming important state facilities after them.
Mr. Prempeh stated that it was meaningless, waiting only to honour such personalities after their death, "the prudent thing to do is to accord him or her that honour while such a personality is still alive".
