Accra, Aug 18, GNA - The National Sports Council (NSC) in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has formed a National Olympians Committee to link up with similar organizations worldwide.
A secretariat has been set up to register all local Olympians as members of association.
Among the objectives of the association is to encourage contact between Olympians in support of Olympians and the Olympic Movement as set forth in the Olympic Charter as well as educating Olympians to become good ambassadors of the Olympic Movement.
It also seeks to support and represent the interest of Olympians and contribute to the enhancement of their quality of life and motivate Olympians towards active leadership in their respective local commitment and countries of residence.
The World Olympians Association was formed in Paris in 1994 at the instance of the then International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Juan Antonio Samranch when he invited Olympians around the world regardless of their age, sport or nationality to team up with a common purpose of promoting the values and virtues that make the Olympic Movement.
The Africa Regional Office is situated in Dakar, Senegal with former Olympian, Amaduo Dia Ba as the office Director. The National Sports Council therefore urges all national Olympians to register with the Association.
