National Sports Council to rekindle interest in Badminton

Kpando, Oct. 16, GNA - The National Sports Council (NSC) has commenced moves to revive badminton in all the 10 regions of the country.

The revival programme is to be carried out in some selected Senior Secondary Schools and Polytechnics throughout the country. Mr Ignatius Elletey, General Secretary of the National Badminton Association (NBA) said this in an interview with the GNA Sports at Kpando on Friday.

The General Secretary said four institutions had been selected in each region for the programme whose objective is to develop the interest of the game especially among the youth.

He said the selected schools in the Volta Region are Kpando Secondary, which is the first school to benefit from the programme, Nkonya Secondary, Mawuli School and Ho Polytechnic.

Mr Elletey said the Sports Council through the Badminton Association has earmarked 50 rackets, three tubes of shuttle corks and a net to each beneficiary school for the use of the players.

Mr Frank Shamo, National Badminton Coach said under the programme, it was hoped that all regions would be represented during national badminton tournaments.

He said the next leg of the training programme would come on in the Eastern Region.
