ACCRA, October 11 -- A competition to crown national champions in all categories of Table Tennis gets underway at the Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, October 13. Dubbed the National Open Championship, the tournaments, which will last two days, is being sponsored by Mr Raphael Brown, vice chairman of GTTA and Director of Seven Great Princes Academy. Mr Emmanuel Aryee Quaye, a former African champion and national chief coach told GNA Sports on Tuesday that every region would be represented by, three boys and two girls.
He said the tournament would be played on knock out basis but would adopt a round robin format from the quarterfinal stage. Mr Quaye said national champions would be crowned in the men and women singles and doubles divisions and the mixed doubles category. The chief coach said there would be handsome cash prizes for winners and runners up in all divisions.
He said GTTA is determined to use the tournament to re-launch Ghana's table tennis and called on sports philanthropists to sponsor tournaments and donate equipment to the association to enable them realise their dream.
