There was a near ring disaster at the Kaneshie Sports Complex during the "Ayalolo Night" when heavy weight boxer, Aloyi Moyoyo knocked his opponent, Joe Addo unconscious in the fourth of their scheduled six round challenge contest.
For fifteen minutes, boxing organisers and fans sat in utter confusion, disbelief and grief as Addo laid prostrate on the canvas as ring doctors Dan Sonne and Sam Quaye tried to revive him.
When he appeared to have regained consciousness, Doctor Sonne asked him to show his corner but he pointed to the red instead of the blue and the doctors had to work on him for another seven minutes.
The fight started on a fast note with Addo dictating the pace, as he threw a brace of straight left jabs to the face of Moyoyo.
Moyo replied with stinging body punches, which seemed to hurt his opponent and consequently slowing him down.
In the second round Addo came in stronger and stunned Moyoyo with left, right combinations to the face and mid section. Moyoyo tried to mix it up but Addo ducked, dodged and danced away.
When the third round began, both boxers stood toe to toe and traded heavy punches to the admiration of the crowd. Intermittently, Addo resorted to clinging to deny Moyoyo advantage any time he appeared to be heading for trouble.
Addo started the fourth round, bobbing and dancing in typical Mohhamed Ali fashion, with his gloves down. He jabbed effectively and appeared to be heading for and easy round when disaster struck.
Moyoyo, side stepped a right over head punch from Addo and countered with a powerful left hook, which caught Addo flat on the chin.
The punch was so powerful that it lifted the 198 pound Addo off the canvas and he slammed the back of his head on the floor as he fell, bringing the fight to a dramatic end.
In another dramatic fight, James Toney put his Sydney ordeal behind him when he stopped Bob Abiro in the first of a six round middleweight contest.
Bob started the fight in a whirlwind fashion as he rushed Toney at the opening bell, with a barrage of left and right combinations.
Toney appeared surprised but not rattled and when he decided to mix up with Bob, referee Emmanuel Osabutey stepped in to save Bob from further punishment after only one minute, 40 seconds of the first round.
The super featherweight contest between favourite, Bilal Mohammed and Samuel Danso scheduled for eight rounds ended in the fifth when Bilal refused to continue.
Danso gave the artistic Bilal no breathing space as he rushed forcing him to clinch continuously.
Danso pummelled Bilal with hefty punches through out the fight and decked him twice before inflicting a cut on his left cheek.
Bilal who had won his four previous fights by knock out decided enough was enough and conceded a TKO decision to Danso.
Badu Akuetey gained a unanimous decision over Isaac Sowah in a six round super-lightweight contest. It was the only fight, which went the distance at the 'Ayalolo Night'.
Lantekwe Hammond and ex world champion Alfred Kotey thrilled fans to three rounds of excellent ring craft in an exhibition contest to compensate the fans, who were disappointed because some of the boxers had chickened out of their contests
