President of New Edubiase football Club Abdul Salam Yakubu says his team is in the Premier League to stay after beating Hearts of Lions to survive on the final day of the 2014/2015 league season.
After sensationally defeating Kpando Heart of Lions while ultimately avoiding relegation, president of New Edubiase united, Abdul Salam Yakubu is in cloud nine.
New Edubiase united started the game on a bright note as Fusseini Nuhu broke the deadlock in the early minutes of the first half before adding a second one in the dying embers of the game. A brace from Bernard Ofori compounded the misery of the Kpando lads before Mohammed Tanko and Osman `Dinho’ Muntaka got two goals for lions at the dearth but proved futile for survival.
Yakubu Abdul Salam says his father had predicted they were going to win the game hence he should speak with confidence.
“I was with my father last week Tuesday and he told me I will win this game and that I should speak with confidence anytime that New Edubiase is in the league to stay”, Yakubu told Happy FM in a post-match interview.
He added, “what motivated me most was the fact that we were battling with big teams like Hearts of Oak , Olympics and Heart of lions and that gave me the believe and confidence to say `God forbid’ that New Edubiase would be relegated but rather we were going to stay in the league for the next 100 years. Our management team is unified on all fronts as you can witness from today’s victory.”
The result sees New Edubiase United maintain their premiership status for next season, while the giant killers, Heart of Lions join Great Olympics and B.A United to the second tier of football after enjoying twelve successful years in the Ghana Premier League.
