New Fadama wins Chocho games

High level camaraderie characterized the maiden edition of the Chocho Inter-Faith Games held at the Nicholson Park, Burma Camp, on Republic Day.

After an all-play-all format involving 12 religious bodies, it was New Fadama Mosque who stood tall, beating the Church of Latter Day Saints 1-0 in the final to run away with the Chocho Industries-branded Mazda Demio Saloon car and a giant trophy.

New Fadama recorded a 2-0 win over the Ahenfie Rastafarian Movement to pick the ticket to the final and it was Abdul Gafaru’s first half strike that separated the two sides.

Latter Day Saints on the other hand, on their way to the final, brushed aside Kasoa Presby, after beating the latter 6-5 on penalties.

Founder of Chocho Industries Alhaji Mustapha Oti Boateng left the games grounds satisfied, having achieved his aim of bringing religious bodies with different backgrounds to pursue a common goal – peace through sports.

After handing over the car key to the winners of the well-attended games, he said, “I can say without a shadow of doubt that we have achieved our aim for gathering here. It is worth organizing it, as you can all see. There was the feeling of oneness despite our differences in beliefs.

“Let’s continue to be tolerant with each other, and preserve the peace we have in our country. It is the only way to ensure development and progress. This forms part of the many activities lined up for our 10th anniversary celebrations. I commend all participating teams for responding to pursue this worthy cause.”

The women’s Suhum Ahmadiyya Moslem Mission and the Church of Latter Day Saints tug-of-war event failed to produce a winner, forcing the organizers to give each group an enviable prize of a LED Flat screen 32’ television. Participants received various prizes ranging from Chocho branded jerseys to Chocho products. New Fadama Mosque, Suhum Ahmadiyya Moslem Mission, Adentan Pentecost, Christ For All Church, Royal House Chapel, Ahenfie Rastafarian Movement, SDA Nungua, Church of Latter Day Saints, Accra, Ghana Police Church, Accra, Presbyterian Church, Kasoa, Hari Krishna and the Traditionalists, Accra were bodies that competed in the event.
