An editor of the Kotoko Express newspaper, Jerome Otchere has called on the new Ghana Football Association (GFA) administration to make a bold decision on the future of Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah.

Appiah suffered heavy backlash from the public following the Senior National Team’s abysmal performance at the 2019 AFCON which saw the team eliminated from the tournament in the Round of 16 stages, the worse performance of the team in over 10-years.

With two-months to end his contract, the 58-year-old gaffer has been given the nod to retain his post if he impresses in the next two games for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers according to a member of the previous GFA Executive Committee, Nana Oduro Sarfo.

Reacting to the issue, Jerome Otchere stated that he couldn’t decipher Oduro Sarfo’s statement as his personal views or one that represented the GFA. He said, “There were things he said that I think it wasn’t appropriate because it’s difficult for those of us in the media to separate your personal views from the views of the FA.”

Jerome further urged the GFA to make a comprehensive analysis of the Black Stars management team and Kwesi Appiah’s performance after the end of his contract before taking a firm decision.

“We would need to take a bold decision on the Black Stars, not just about the coaching, the entire management of the team needs a second thought because the Black Stars we saw at the 2006 Germany World Cup and 2010 South Africa World Cup is not what it is now. It presupposes that there are certain technical and management perhaps administrative decisions taken at the time which we are not looking at properly today,” Jerome said in the interview with Ghanaweb.

He added, “Just wait for his contract to runout then we should then put our feet down and say, coach the direction you’ve taken us is not what we want to go so thank you for a good job done.”

The Black Stars will host Bafana Bafana at the Cape Coast Stadium on November 14 before travelling to Sao Tome and Principe to play them four days later.
