Accra, Jan. 14, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday sent its hearty congratulations to Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting club for winning the CAF Confederation Cup.
The ruling party said that Hearts victory which makes them the first winners of the Confederation Cup competition certainly did not only bring honour to the team and the club alone, but it also brought honour to Ghana for which all Ghanaians should justifiably feel proud. In the message of congratulations signed by the Press Secretary of the party, Mr Kwadwo Afari copied to the GNA Sports commended the club for their discipline and dedication that ensured they defeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko 8-7 on penalties to lift the trophy.
The release said "the 'Porcupine Warriors' and their vociferous supporters also merit commendation for their sportsmanship and graciousness even in defeat and that their attitude on and off the field of play and the hand of friendship extended to all those who attended the match in Kumasi is indeed worthy of emulation".
Mr Afari said the NPP also congratulates the Ghana Football Association, the match officials and the security services for their respective roles which cumulatively ensured a peaceful and good game.
He said the Party commends the soccer fans both at the stadium and all over the country for their exemplary comportment, a trait that guaranteed the neat game that was played last Sunday.
Mr Afari said it is necessary that the teeming followers of football in the country d not forget that despite hearts' victory and Kotoko's defeat, last Sunday's match was indeed a victory for the whole nation.
He said that "we all must strive to ensure that the game of football would rise to its former glory once again to enable us reign as the best in Africa, sooner than later," he added.
