New soccer club formed in Wenchi

Wenchi, (B/A) Jan. 16, GNA - A new football club to be known as Wenchiman Heroes has been formed at Wenchi in Brong-Ahafo with Mr. Joseph Aluta as Chairman of the Club. The Club is presently in Division Two and is taking part in the Brong- Ahafo Regional "Zone Five" competition.

The officers include John Sarfo as vice chairman, Mr. Wahab Yaroba, Secretary, Mr. David Dogbe, Assistant Secretary, Mr. Benjamin Nii Okai, Treasurer and Mr. Ibrahim Haruna popularly known as "Strongman", Public Relations Officer.

The rest are Mr. Kwadwo Agude, Team Manager, Mr. Abdulai Mpeh, Organiser, Mr. Kwame Serebour, Assistant Organiser and Mr. Mohammed Yusif, Welfare Officer.

Nana Kwadwo Nyame Nketiah, Patron and Founder of the Club told the He announced plans to construct a sports stadium at Wenchi to promote sporting activities and that the management of the CLub has already contacted the Ministry of Education and Sports for support. The Patron said a plot of land located on the Wenchi-Offuman road had been acquired for the modern stadium project. Nana Nketiah was among the first batch of coaches sent from Ghana to Germany for training and education in 1956 and studied sports administration.

He has over the years' coached Swedru All Blacks, B.A. United and B.A. Stars, as well as Susubiribi Stars and Koforidua Rovers, both in the Eastern Region. Mr Haruna, the PRO called on residents of Wenchi to support the new club and appealed to the Member of Parliament for Wenchi, Professor George Yaw Gyan Baafour and Mrs. Ibrahim Bintu Farizana the District Chief Executive to lend their support o sustain the Club.
