Newcastle to sign Jefferson Montero to give Christian Atsu competition

Newcastle United want to Swansea City wideman Jefferson Montero as they seek to give much needed competition to Christian Atsu.

The Northern Echo reports the Swans have offered the chance to the Magpies to sign the Ecuadorian star.

Montero is available for £4m with manager Rafa Benitez keen to bring the pacy winger to the St James' Park.

A potential arrival of Montero would provide the much needed competition for the Ghanaian as well as teammate Matt Ritchie.

Newcastle have been slow in the transfer market which has fueled disquiet among the fans.
