Nigeria eyeing Ghana scalp at Women's Afcon

Nigeria coach Florence Omagbemi is confident of progressing to the knockout stage at the 2016 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The Super Falcons will play in Group B at the biennial championship, alongside Ghana, Mali and Kenya.

The Central Africans open their campaign against Mali on November 20, before matches against Ghana and Kenya on November 23 and 26 respectively.

"In my playing days, it was never easy games against the Ghanaians though we usually had the upper hands," Omagbemi told CafOnline.

"Nigeria and Ghana started women’s football at that same time and they have ideas and talents about the women’s game.

"So, the Black Queens and even the Cameroonians would naturally want to pose a challenge but we are going to take our matches one at a time because there are no smaller teams again in football.

"We are not under any pressure.

"We just want to retain our trophy as the defending champions."

Not only are Nigeria the current holders of the trophy but also the most successful team in the history of the championship.

The Falcons have won the competition on nine occasions.

Omagbemi is a former player of the side.

The 2016 Women's Africa Cup of Nations runs between November 19 and December 3.
