Nigeria has won the team events in both the male and female U-19 category of the ongoing 2018 Africa Badminton Schools Championship in Ghana.

South Africa, who are only competing in the female category, could not much the strength of the Nigerians as they lost all three final games to Nigeria.

In the men's event, the story was not different, as the Nigerians brushed aside Cote D'Voire, Niger and Benin to win the men's U-19 category.

Ghana only managed the third position in the men's competition, whilst female team, which was introduced to the sports, six months ago, failed to make an impact.

The 2018 championship, which is currently being hosted at the Team International School, has eight countries vying for the sole slot to represent Africa in both team and individual events at the World Badminton Schools Championship next year.

Mr. Yeboah Evans, President of the Ghana Badminton Association (GBA), praised the coaches and players of the schools representing Ghana in the tournament, for their hard work, with just six months of introduction to the sport, in some schools representing Ghana in the tournament.

Mr Simon Mugabi, Vice President and the Chairman of Events Committee for the Badminton Confederation of Africa, praised Ghana for her continues effort in hosting major Badminton competition as he recounts the Ghana International Badminton championship, which brought ninety players from over twenty countries across the world to Ghana.

The week long tournament, which started from December 13, would end on December 20.
