Nkoranza (B/A), July 10, GNA - The Nkoranza District Directorate of Education on Saturday organised a marathon competition for 90 selected athletes from basic schools in the area to prepare them for the Brong-Ahafo Schools Regional marathon games scheduled for Techiman on July 22, 2005.
The justify-your-inclusion competition is also to enable the District select a competent team to represent it at the Regional contest.
The participants covered a distance of five kilometers through Nkoranza to Dandwa through Akropong back to Nkoranza. Miss Kundelik Roda, a primary four pupil from Timiabu local primary school placed first in the race, followed by Master Effah Kwabena of Bonsu Methodist primary school.
Master Kwasi Sulemana of Dromankese Anglican Primary "B" school came third, Miss Samina Judith of Bonte-Bomiri Primary coming fourth, followed by Miss Attaa Mary of Dromankuma local primary school, Miss Mary Gyamea of Ayerede Roman Catholic primary and Miss Amma Kunbatzie of Timiabu Primary school in that order.
Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, District Director of Education in an address commended the athletes for their efforts and comportment in the competition.
Mr. Agyemang-Badu stressed the need for the participants to take their training serious in order for them to place in better positions at the regional festival and also make the district proud.
He presented a school uniform, a bag, five exercise books, a ballpoint pen and a ruler each to the first best girl and boy in the competition and also gave two exercise books each to the other contestants who completed the race.
The others runners who managed to make a half-way mark also received an exercise book each.
Mr. Hinneh Aframfo, Regional Education Sports organizer said that a contingent of 30 athletes made up of 15 boys and 15 girls selected from the competition would be camped at Nkoranza for 10 days in preparations towards the regional festival.
