Nkrumah House wins Inter Houses Athletics Competition

Bole (N/R), March 5, GNA - Nkrumah House bagged 310 points to emerge overall winners of the 28th Annual Inter Houses Athletics Competition of the Bole Secondary School on Sunday.

Jakpa House followed at the second position with 281 points, Aggrey House came third with 256 points with Mackbranneth House fourth with 237 points.

Nkrumah House was also declared winners of the Boys' Athletic competition when they bagged 186 points followed by Aggrey House with 158 points, Mackbranneth House with 128 points and Jakpa House with 122 points.

In the Girls Division, Aggrey House gathered 198 to emerge winners of the two-day competition followed by Jakpa House with 159 points, Nkrumah House came third with 121 points and Mackbranneth House with 109 points.

The Boys soccer trophy was also annexed by Nkrumah House whilst Jakpa House won the Girls event.

The Boys Volleyball trophy was won by Mackkbranneth House whilst that of the Girls went to Jakpa House.

Aggrey House pulled the Cross Country Boys trophy, whilst Nkrumah House also received that of the Girls Athletics Championship. The Girls Athletic trophy went to Jakpa Gouse while the trophy for the well behaved House for Boys went to Aggrey House and the best Girl's sward going to Miss Abulai Memunatu of Jakpa House.

The Bole District Chief Executive, Madam Elizabeth Salamatu Forgor in an address said that the physical being of human beings in sporting activities was a necessary ingredient that propelled the strength, capability and beauty the Greeks who were the first to consider sports as a weapon to develop their socio-economic development.

She said it is gratifying that sports has been made a key components of the school curriculum which is aimed at developing the healthy mind of the students to help them explore their hidden potentials. This, she said would lead to discipline and a positive mind which also guides one in his development.

Madam Forgor assured the school that Government was committed in creating conducive environment for all educational activities including teaching, learning and sports.

She disclosed that the school has been included in the second phase of the upgrading of Secondary School programme adding that construction of an administrative block, a laboratory and Computer centre would soon begin.

All the classrooms, dormitories, staff quarters and other existing infrastructure of the school would be massively rehabilitated, she added.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Daniel Kpebu appealed to the Assembly to rehabilitate the science resource bus, which broke down for over eight months now and appealed for financial support to enable the school prepare adequately for the Regional Science Competition. Mr Kpebu said that the Girls volleyball team which won the trophy for the recent Milo Volleyball competition was to represent the Northern Region at the National Milo championship competition scheduled for Sunyani in May, this year.

He appealed to both parents, the Board of Governors of the School and other education stakeholders to help smoke out the menace of wee smoking syndicate in the school.
