Black Satellites midfielder Gladson Awako has decided to call time on his club hunt and head back to Ghana after his travels in Europe failed to produce the dream deal he was craving for.
The marauding midfield star of Ghana’s African Youth Championship winning team has been through Italy, France and England training with a variety of clubs including AS Monaco, Tottenham Hotspurs and Inter Milan but still can’t find a deal despite all the grand reports in sections of the media about how he had almost tied down a move to Inter Milan.
That move that was supposedly almost certain to happen this summer has not happened and Awako has decided it’s time to keep his mind on finding a place in the Ghana squad that will travel to Egypt for the 2009 World Youth Championships.
“I think it will be better to just return to Ghana and battle for my place in the U-20s,” he told KickOffGhana.com after making his senior debut purely by accident in the international friendly against Zambia. “Sometimes it gets frustrating when you are always told a deal is close and will happen when it does not.”
Awako’s return may be a timely boost for Kpandu Heart of Lions who are due to make a pitch for the Ghalca Top 4 title which commences on August 23.
Awako still has a year to run on his contract with Heart of Lions.
