Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has insisted that the government has no regrets over the decision to part ways with former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, despite Ghana's disappointing journey at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on JoyNews, the Sports Minister reflected on Ghana's final group-stage defeat in the United States, admitting that while the Black Stars possessed enough talent, poor preparation ultimately undermined their chances.

"For most Ghanaians, we went into that game very hopeful, but the preparation towards this tournament wasn't the best," Adams said.

He pointed to the uncertainty surrounding the national team's technical leadership before the tournament as a major factor behind the team's struggles.

"Of course, we had challenges with the technical side, and many of us spoke about it. Many were calling for an early decision on who should manage the national team," he explained.

According to Kofi Adams, although the Ghana Football Association eventually appointed a coach, the decision came too late to allow enough time to build a cohesive team identity.

"Admittedly, we made a decision, but it was taken a bit late. That did not offer the coach the opportunity to transmit what we call a structure to the team," he said.

He stressed that having talented players alone is not enough to compete successfully at the highest level.

"The coach had talented players, but he just had to manage them with a certain strategy, and that alone can't work for you to stay at this level of competition," Adams added.
