The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Bawa Majeed, has stated that the Accra Sports Stadium will not host social events for the time being.
According to him, this directive is geared towards safeguarding the pitch from being damaged after it underwent rehabilitation works recently.
He also disclosed that the new-look stadium has been approved by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host high-profile football matches.
“We will designate a facility for the national team, which will remain available to them whenever they are called to service, and we will ensure that the facility is protected. Nothing other than sports will take place at the facility. As we speak, the Accra Sports Stadium has received CAF and FIFA permission, and it will be operated as a national facility, which means no extracurricular activities will take place there,” ghanasoccernet.com quoted him to have said on Akoma FM.
The Accra Sports Stadium hosted the Black Stars versus Sudan game in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which ended in a goalless draw.
The stadium was renovated after CAF banned the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting Black Stars matches due to the poor state of the pitch and facilities.
The Black Stars will host Niger in Ghana and travel to face Angola in their final two matches in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in November 2024.
After four matches played, Ghana are third in Group F with two points, Sudan are in second place with seven points, while Angola leads with twelve points.
