Ghana’s Parliament today received a breakdown of Ghana’s total expenditure at the 2019 African Cup of Nations held in Egypt.

The itemized breakdown was presented to Parliament by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah who revealed that the state spent $4,564,532.00 during the competition.

The media had reported before the start of the competition that the country had budgeted between $7m and $15m for the competition.

Be that as it may, the Ministry of Sports had denied the reports and guaranteed to account to the people’s agents after the one-month biennial competition.

The Minister disclosed today that an amount of 6.3 million dollars was allocated for the entire tournament which came to an abrupt end after Ghana exited in the round of 16.

He added that $1.7m was left after all expenditures including were made and that will be returned to the states account.

“Now the actual expenditure, Mr Speaker emphasis on actual expenditure, Mr Speaker an amount of $4,564,532 was expended on the training tour till the time Ghana exited the from the main tournament.”

Mr Asiamah further added that the players received a total of $965,405.00, the technical team got $347,027.00 and the additional technical staff bagged $177,000.00 as the Stars failed to go beyond the round of 16.

With regards to per diems, the players received $187,050 in per diems while the technical staff and the additional technical support staff pocketed $129,600 and $90,750 respectively.

On the other hand, $419,300 was spent on feeding while $1,143,519 was spent on accommodation.

4. Per diem-Additional Technical Staff $90,750.00

5. Winning Bonus-Players $965,405.00

6. Winning Bonus-Technical $347,027.00

7. Winning Bonus-Additional Technical Staff $177,000.00

8. Accommodation $1,143,519.00

9. Feeding $419,300.00

10. Match tickets $41,750.00

11. Medicals $44,574.00

12. Visa fees $8,541.00

13. Internal Transportation $43,092.00

14. Incidentals $42,576.00

Total: $4,564,352.00



Ghana’s long wait to once again win the AFCON vanished into thin air after they crashed out of the round of 16 losing to Tunisia on penalties.

Out of the total of four matches played, the Black Stars won one game against Guinea-Bissau and drew against Benin and Cameroon in the group stage.
