Former Black Stars goalkeepers’ trainer Abukari Damba has backed Kwesi Appiah decision to make changes in the technical department of the Black Stars, explaining that it is within his purview to decide who he works with.
Reports emerged last week that Kwesi Appiah has proposed changes to his backroom staff.
Assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko, team coordinator Stephen Appiah and goalkeepers’ trainer Richard Kingston were mentioned as victims of the Kwesi Appiah’s decision.
Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb, Damba urged Ghanaians to accept the changes as it signifies a new plan of action by the Black Stars coach.
He also shot down claims of a frosty relationship between Kwesi Appiah and some members of his technical team.
“Well its not a big deal neither is it a new thing. Why do coaches change backroom staff? Because he wants to make it better. Kwesi Appiah has been in this job for God knows how long so he understands exactly the direction he wants to take the Black Stars. So if he decides that he wants to work with a particular individual, there are reasons why”.
“It is not as if those who work with him are no good. But maybe the direction with which he wants to take the team, he needs new faces and new ideas and new people on board. It is his prerogative to do that. We just have to wish him well”, he said.
Kwesi Appiah is reportedly close to sealing a two-year deal that will extend his stay with the Black Stars to December 2021.
His current deal expires in December, 2019
