A member of the Executive Council (EC) of Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwame Ntow-Fiako has lashed Ghanaians who would not contribute anything towards development of football in the country but would criticize every step taken to ensure the progress of the game.
Ntow-Fiako who is a member of the 5-member committee set up by Congress to review the GFA statutes was reacting to numerous criticisms and allegations leveled against some members of the committee. In an unusual outburst, he described the critics as people who are out to satisfy their whims and caprices at the expense of Ghana football.
?How can any right thinking person jump at the throats of the members of the committee even before the committee begin its work?, he fumed in an exclusive interview with SPACE FM. He added that the members would not be distracted by the handiwork of the critics but would continue to execute the mandate given to them by Congress.
Ntow-Fiako who is also the vice-chairman of the Division One League Board expressed his outmost gratitude to Congress for the opportunity given him to be part of this historical committee. He wondered why the critics have kept quite after FIFA had commended the committee for an excellent job done.
When quizzed about FIFA?s reservation about the proposed size of Congress and the government?s representation on the Congress, he said no Law is perfect! He added that the committee is waiting for instructions from Congress to embark of few amendments of the draft to satisfy the suggestions made by FIFA.
It would be recalled that in the heat of legal wrestle between the former chairman of the GFA management Board, Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe and the Executive Council, FIFA ordered GFA to review its statutes in conformity with that of FIFA.
A 5- member committee formed to discharge this responsibility received barrage of criticisms from some quarters. Prominent among them were Dr. Tamakloe, Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and Nana Fritz, former chairman of embattled Cornerstone.
In a letter dated 27th May, 2005 the Deputy General Secretary of FIFA Jerome Champagne described the draft work of the committee as an excellent piece. ?We refer to your letter dated 20th May 2005, communicating to FIFA the first draft of the new GFA statutes. FIFA immediately reviewed this document and can today inform the GFA that this draft is an excellent text which however requests some amendments in two various areas?, the first two opening paragraphs read.
The other members of the committee are Kwasi Nyantakyi, acting chairman of GFA management Board, Randy Abbey, Fred Crenstil and veteran football administrator Jones Abu-Alhassan
