Ntow Fianko urges clubs to kick against 18-club league proposal

Former Division One League Board Chairman, Kwame Ntow Fianko has frowned on the Ghana Football Association’s proposal to expand the premier league to 18-club league.

The GFA has been gripped with many legal issues and most especially, the case involving Tema Youth and Dreams FC which has led to calls from some club administrators to expand the league format from its original 16-club league to 18 next season to save the situation.

However, Ntow Fianko says it will be in the interest of Ghana football if the FA can find an amicable solution to the problem, but playing 18-club league will not serve the clubs in the premier well due to financial challenges.

“The FA should have dealt with this situation long ago because I believe the only solution to this challenge they face is to demote the clubs that deserved to be demoted and promote the qualified clubs like always. They’re not helping matters by making this proposal; it seems like they’re trying caress the situation to favour some clubs,” fumed Ntow Fianko on Happy FM.

“We could not even manage the 16-club league, how much more 18 or 20. There’s no common sense in this because they should bear in mind that this will not only affect the premier league, it will go right down to division two which I don’t think they [FA] the financial means to sustain.”

“I’ll urge the clubs to kick against this proposal because they will suffer in the long run. We want a competitive league and not a wholesome league where every chaff can partake in.”
