Kwasi Nyantakyi has expressed his gratitude to the country's president John Evans Atta Mills and his deputy John Mahama for playing a 'significant role' in his CAF elections success.

Ghana FA boss is also grateful to the people of his country for the support they offered him to defeat Issa Hayatou's preferred candidate to win a seat on the executive committee of the continental governing body.

Nyantakyi thrashed Anjorin Moucharafou of Benin by clinching 64% per cent of the votes to ease through to seal Ghana's seal on the powerful body for the first time in nearly two decades.

Prof Mills sent deputy sports minister Nii Nortey Dua to back Nyantakyi's bid in Sudan while Mr. Mahama convinced African FA bosses in a recent meeting in Accra to vote for the Ghanaian.

Nyantakyi insists without the support of his country's president and the vice president as well as the Ghanaians victory would have been difficult.

"First of all I want to thank His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta Mills for the massive support he gave before this historic victory," Nyantakyi told Ghanasoccernet.com.

"The vice president Mr. John Mahama also played a very significant role in this as he convinced my colleagues African FA bosses that I can do a good job at the launching of the Goal Project in Prampram. I am grateful.

"The minister of sport and his deputy all chipped in their support which made things smooth for me.

"Ghanaians also gave me their massive backing with prayers, fasting and moral support which went a long way in helping.

"I am eternally grateful to all of them and I assure them that this victory is not for Nyantakyi - it is for the people for Ghana - it is for the people of Africa.

"My country's interest will be strongly represented in Africa football and the interest of all African countries will be firmly protected and advanced"

Nyantakyi started his work on the Caf Executive Committee on Thursday, just one day after his victory.
