Accra, June 17, GNA - Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rued the lack of competition in the GFA elections that handed him a second term of office.
Nyantakyi was elected by popular acclamation at the GFA Extraordinary Congress held on Friday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
He was the sole candidate after two aspirants, Vincent Sowah Odotei and Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe were disqualified for reports of anomalies in their applications whilst the duo of Golightly McKenzie and Forsythe Alhassan withdrew at the initial stages.
Nyantakyi told GNA Sports "competition usually brings out the best in you. This (unopposed) does not give you a correct gauge of your popularity."
He dismissed claims of a 91golden hand' regarding the disqualification of the two candidates insisting the procedure was genuine.
"No bridges were broken. We just applied the laws. The law states that when you want to contest, you need to be proposed and seconded by 10 other clubs.
"If you do this, this does not amount to breaching bridges," he added.
Nyantakyi has reached out to the other aspirants to join him in the crusade towards pushing Ghana football to the next level.
"We are not a political party and it is not a 'winner takes all' affair. For me, everyone must come out to support the GFA into a brand that we all want."
Nyantakyi assumed the hot seat of the GFA for the first time in December 2005.
