Odartey Lamptey named among FIFA U-17 World Cup legends

Former Black Starlets player Nii Odartey Lamptey has been named as one of the legends of the FIFA Under 17 World Cup, after helping Ghana win her first ever World Cup in 1991.

Nii Odartey Lamptey was instrumental in Ghana's success at the FIFA under-17 World Cup in 1991, he was joint top scorer with Brazilian Andriano and finished the tournament as best player.

The retired footballer who is now a coach was full of potential and expected to blossom after the World Cup but a number of reasons led to him unable to hit his full level.

Lamptey went on after the world Cup to play for several clubs including Aston Villa in England and PSV in Holland.

Meanwhile, following his success at the World Cup he was named as part of the Legends of The FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Other players who made the list were Sergio Santamaria of Spain who went on to play for FC Barcelona, USA veteran Landon Donovan, France Florent Sinama Pongolle, Cesc Fabregas currently of Chelsea and Ghanaian-born former USA international Freddy Adu.

Former Manchester United midfielder Anderson, Germany and Real Madrid star Toni Kroos and Kelechi Iheanacho of Nigeria were all named in the list.
