West Brom forward, Peter Osaze Odemwingie will not take part in Tuesday's international friendly between Nigeria and Ghana in London.

The Nigerian international is set to undergo a surgery on his troubled ankle.

Odemwingie, 30, has struggled with an ankle injury in the last two months.

The surgery on the ankle is scheduled for Wednesday in Amsterdam, Holland.

The striker has since left Nigeria's De Vere Village Hotel in Watford on Monday night to return to Birmingham after speaking West Brom doctors.

But before he left Watford, the Nigerian medical team examined him and agreed that he should undergo a surgery on his injured ankle immediately.

Nigeria head coach, Samson Siasia also agreed to excuse him to leave camp on Monday night ahead of the Ghana game.

"It is his career on the line, and it is very important for us to put the health and welfare of our players first above everything else," Siasia said.

"Osaze has been playing with pain-killers and after speaking with the doctor, we all agreed that he should have his surgery as soon as possible."

Odemwingie suffered the injury during pre-season with West Brom and now faces weeks on the sideline after surgery.

The striker will miss the West Midlands derby against Aston Villa and also the Black Country Derby against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
